This is "Flipper", the friendly and common dolphin species seen so often in aquarium dolphin shows. We've found them on almost all of the LOS trips, both near shore and in deep blue water well away from the Mississippi Delta. You can see the inshore form from the beach, at such locations as Grand Isle State Park and the East Jetty in Cameron.


The offshore Bottlenose Dolphins above were photographed off the Texas coast on a pelagic trip organized by Dwight Peake during June of 1999.

Here's an inshore Bottlenose Dolphin playing in the bow wave of a large freighter near the mouth of Southwest Pass. This photo was taken on the way in from the September 1995 trip.
