I am an Associate Professor in the Department of Psychology and the John LaFarge Professor in Social Justice at Xavier University of Louisiana in New Orleans.  I received my BA in psychology at the University of Kansas and my MS and PhD in experimental social psychology at Tulane University in New Orleans.  My research generally focuses on the cognitive aspects of person perception and stereotyping and prejudice, as well as the scholarship of teaching.

In our spare time, my wife Elizabeth Yost Hammer (a social psychologist and professor at Loyola University ) and I enjoy spending time with our dog Denali (seen here with late buddy Slim) and our cats McGuire and WhoopyCat (don't ask).  We also like to travel, camp, watch movies, support local music, and relax with our friends.
